Ice and More Ice
I'm up to the seventh day of cracking ice, but it really never got much above freezing yesterday, so this morning I used the shovel, rather than just my walking stick in dealing with the ice. First day this year to use a metal implement! For that I'm grateful . . . It's a funny thing for those who are setting out in this lifestyle. My hands get colder, even in gloves when I have something with metal even with a wooden handle, in my hands. So, I prefer to not have to use shovels and axes. Those wood cutters are strong, tough men! I don't usually use this blog for a message like I'm about to give, but today is an exception. I've already moved the chicken fence as I blogged a week or so ago, and the chickens are having a hey-day in this last season's garden. This morning as I was walking across this enclosed area, I suddenly saw a vision and heard the following: The vision really wasn't so difficult to picture, but rather than cold, it was hot, dry and parched and the garden was full of dry and nearly dead stems and stalks still standing, but the vegetation was absent. The ground was dusty and much like our last summer, only everything was brown. I then heard, "Famine is coming, but they will eat empty food, and not realize they are starving." Now some folks that know me, have used some pretty harsh words to describe what I believe and what I'm establishing, but for those who do not want to starve on Monsanto frankenfood and would like to get back to living off the land, buy some heirloom seeds. Even if your access is limited, plant something that will produce food and seeds. Meanwhile, it' a balmy 50 this afternoon and evening chores probably won't be quite so brisk as morning chores were.
