Rain in It's Season

The spring rains have arrived, well I think it's finally spring; although it was a bit nippy this morning through chores. I washed my hair yesterday, with the feeling the rain was coming. Now here I sit writing, while my hair dries. Rainy days are so good in so many ways, but I have even more goodness for which to be thankful. I've mentioned the addition of guttering and rain barrels in the anticipation of spring rains. In an attempt to avoid cracks in the barrels, from the late cold snap, this is the first time they have been in full operation. The amount of water simply boggles the mind. I heard the thunder in the distance early this morning, and then the raindrops began to fall. The rain on the skylight overrode the sound of the percolator. I felt like a little kid, I was so excited to see what was happening with the first official rainfall in barrels. Prepare to be amazed.

I looked out the east window to discover two barrels full to overflowing. I couldn't contain my curiosity, so I ran out on the deck in my nightgown, in the rain, to see what the rain gauge would reveal. To my astonishment, there was just under an half inch of rain in the gauge. Such a seemingly small amount of rain could not be contained in these barrels. This is one of those ideas that I knew was from my heavenly Father. I just keep using the words amazing and astonishing, because it is.

Have you noticed that gardens, lawns, anything green and growing does so much better when G-d waters them than sprinklers? Even potted plants on the deck, regardless of my diligence to water them, just thrive and look completely refreshed from rain water. I've said for years that everything just does better when G-d waters it. Now I know why. There is math to back up this claim! I have one chicken house that is 10 X 12 with a sloped roof, standing away from everything else, so that is my constant. This morning there was over 50 gallons of water in that rain barrel. When I finished all the chores and came in to dry off, I grabbed my coffee and calculator and began figuring!

Just an 1/2 inch of rain falling from the sky by our Creator's design put over 1000 gallons of water on my 50' X 50' vegetable garden! I will never look at the simple things we take for granted, the same; again. I have a greater appreciation for G-d's promise of rain in it's season and a renewed perspective of the importance of our obedience in this matter. This morning's 1/2 inch of rain on my little ten acre homestead amounts to over 180,000 gallons of water, delivered by the hand of our Creator. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that fact . . . No wonder everything does better when G-d waters it!

It is abundantly more than I could have imagined . . .

  1. I love the ancient Hebrew pictograph for the word rain: geshem: "Walking Character" Fascinating :-)
The letter "gimmel" is a picture of a foot, meaning "walk" or "gather". "Shem" means "name" or "character".
We're told that there will be rain in its season when we guard and honor the Teaching and Instruction. In effect, when *we "walk the character" of the Almighty in the land, it rains.
    Keep walking, Kindred :-)
