A Spring Perspective

As I sit here with the windows wide open, writing this article, and praying about the weather, I'm once again reminded of Ecclesiastes 3, "To everything there is a season . . ."  As much as I look forward to spring and truly enjoy this season, it is indeed fraught with potentially dangerous weather, specifically tornadoes.  I have made a concerted effort to apply this reality to other areas of my life.

We all speak of taking the bad with the good, but the reality is, most of us would prefer to take the good without the bad.  For the most part, life comes with both.  I have realized, however; since following Messiah, my perspective has changed dramatically.   My bad days now are truly better than my good days used to be. Before I served YHWH, one day turned into another in a rather grinding sort of fashion.  I wasn't depressed or living a bad life, it just lacked purpose.  I had goals and I worked hard at what I did, but I was striving for love, trying to earn it or make up for the lack of it.  I was never terribly interested in "the American dream," but I beat myself up, emotionally, for not caring about it.

I was raised to be an achiever, and I'm not blaming my parents at all, it's just that I didn't know how to "be" only to "do."  So, I stayed busy, still do, but now that I've died to the old self, I'm actually living!  Oh, I haven't arrived, I'm not saying that, but the bad days now are truly better than the good days used to be.  It's nice to actually be living the life YHWH ordained for me to live.  I haven't yet come into the fullness of the plan, but I'm purposed on the path!

Knowing inclement weather was forecasted, I chose to view it from a gardening perspective.  I wanted to get everything in place ready to be watered in the rain.  I can't explain it well, but it's a well known fact that G-d waters a garden so much better than I can with a hose, a bucket, and a sprinkler.  Spring rains come in storms in this area, but without spring rains there is no fresh summer produce.  No fresh summer produce means no canning and preserving for the winter.  I'm blessed to live in an area with such a lengthy growing season and short winters.

Every place on the planet has pros and cons regarding climate and weather.  All in all, I'm so thankful to be right where I am!
