Every spring on the homestead there is at least one moving day, sometimes there are more. Moving day on the homestead is when the kid crop goes to new homes. I declared a separation day to get everyone weaned and there is method to my madness, regarding a separation prior to actual relocation. Once in awhile, a kid just isn't quite as independent as they need to be, as far as a good cud and strong eater. If there is a problem, I can get them back "on" mom and not sell that problem unbeknownst to the buyer or the seller. If I tell someone the kid is a good strong independent eater and weaned, then that's what they should get.
The other issue, which isn't very often, but sometimes a nanny just keeps producing milk in abundance. If she's one of my milkers, that's not an issue, I can take care of that, but if it's one of my Grandkid's dwarfs, I just really don't always want to try to milk those tiny teats. If one of those little mamas get too full, I can time some short termed "reunions" and dry her up slowly so she's not in pain and the kid is still ready to go, when it's time to move.
Today, five little buckaroos headed to the sale. Only one belonged to me, but I got to load them up and get my work out! All of my grandchildren's goats had bucks except one, so hopefully they will do well today at the sale and feed some bank accounts. The most awesome one belongs to YHWH, as he was the firstborn of this year's herd, so I'm sure there is a need that will become evident soon, as meat was not a need at this time.
I rejoice to be blessed with the "holy" part of this homesteading life this morning. I wasn't UP to my usual klutziness this morning. My coordination was really rather uncoordinated, moreso than usual. Some days that just goes with the territory. I knew in my heart of hearts at the onset, without the power of YHWH, those goats would have the upper hand in no time and I'd probably be face down in the pen with goat hooves on my back! Well, giving all glory to YHWH, they were loaded and on the road without incident! I felt the Holy strength of my Creator, this morning, in this holy homesteading.
