Frost on the Punkin'

Tuesday, it was rumored, there would be a frost in the Ozarks.  Since the temperature really didn't change all day, I decided to take the rumor seriously.  It is November, after all!  I have two green houses, as I've mentioned in previous articles and one is heated by water. Through the homesteading years, one is always an experiment while the other runs according to the previous winter's success . . . hopefully.  This is my latest attempt at off grid heating.  It's really delightful since this time of year, clay pots are at their lowest available price.

If it works, I'll be sure to post the instructions.  So far it's still in the experimental stage.  It did actually warm up with just a tea light candle and there was a mild frost that night!

The next morning, about an hour after sunrise, this was the view from my west bedroom window.  I was so glad to have everything tucked in to the green house.  I'll be giving growing updates through the coming months at Grocery Underground, here in the Bloom Where You're Planted Section.   Meanwhile, I have a feeling this is just a foretaste of what's to come.  The squirrels are frantically gathering acorns and the livestock have all gained  their winter coats.

It's not snow, only the frost on the ground that same morning before the sun was fully visible over the timber.  This was taken out of my south picture window, so clearly winter is on it's way.
A simple reminder, "to everything there is a season."
