Let's Talk About the Weather

If this blog were just an ice report, this post would be mostly blank. I've now enjoyed four mornings with no ice to break. Here it is the middle of January in the Ozarks, and no ice, temperatures nearing 60 the past few days. This morning, however; was a different story. I could tell by the furnace through the night, the temperature was dropping, and sure enough, by morning it was more like normal weather again. It was right around 30 when I went out to do chores this morning, so there was ice, but still I think, without looking back at the old blogs, it's just about 20 or 21 days of cracking ice. I'm thankful this winter has been cold enough to kill the cooties, yet still not fiercely cold. I love living in the Ozarks.
I'm about to come out of my wri-bernation. My latest book is nearly finished. G-d willing, it's heading to the publisher with in days. As I was doing some finishing touches on one of the chapters, the thought crossed my mind that some will be thrilled to read this, and others as in family, well . . . I may lose my standing in popularity. It was then that the thought occurred to me, the phone hasn't exactly been ringing off the hook with calls from my "nuclear circle of influence," a.k.a. family. To become less popular seems virtually impossible.
I had one of those feelings a year ago, that things were going to sort of unravel, I guess is a good way to put it. Well, unravel, they have and in some ways, I think it's made things a bit easier. I'm sure you can relate, most of us know that sinking horrible feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop . . . Then, once it has, you can breathe deeply again. I kind of see my personal year of 2012 maybe as a forerunner to the national stage for the year of 2013. On the upside though, in the midst of all the unraveling, I've recovered well from my twice broken arm, it's less than a month to begin planting the garden, and my book should be hitting the e-shelves at about that same time. Life is good, and I just don't mind cracking a little ice for a couple of months! I wish the nation could get a grasp on what has changed my perspective. The answer, my friend is truly "blowing in the wind." I find it interesting that the Hebrew term for G-d's Spirit translates: Holy Wind and those guys in Acts in the upper room - a rushing mighty Wind . . .
