Goats In the Window

It's breeding season, here on the homestead, so the bucks are not in their usual pasture.  I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but most of the year, I keep my two bucks in the north pasture.  That accomplishes so many things.  First, if they are in the same pasture without does, they don't tear up fence and they just basically mind their own business.  Second, keeping them in the north pasture keeps the whole place from smelling like a buck through the months of a summer breeze.  I'm a conscientious neighbor as well, as there is over 40 acres of solid timber between this homestead and the neighbor to the north.  And last, but certainly not least, keeping the bucks away from the milkers is imperative to enjoying delicious, fresh goat's milk.  I don't know how they do it, but the presence of a buck actually changes the flavor of the milk.  Since Jed moved to the big pasture with the big does, he and the two new ones have become quite the trio.  They are constantly cahootzing!

I feel like I've just posted mug shots of the three.  And below, is a photo of the three of them together as well as the window in which they attempted to break and enter.

It was at this window that the excitement began for my Granddaughter.  The first night they arrived, it was warm and we had the windows wide opened.  The next day it rained and cooled off, so she had just closed the window about an hour before these three managed to remove the screen.

Her mom and I were out back so we missed the excitement, but she was quite animated in the telling.  We had a good laugh imagining these three in the house and trying to get them herded back out!   This window is officially goat proofed . . . until the three of them figure out a new plan!
